Why Engineering

I’m drawn to engineering because I like structured problem-solving, working within constraints, and improving systems over time – the same mindset I bring to my training. Aerospace appeals to me because it combines Physics and Maths with real-world performance demands and ambitious design challenges. I’ve spent most of my life building Lego, learning about supercars and, more recently, following Formula 1, so thinking about how things are designed, tested and made faster has always been natural to me.

I’m also excited by the data side of performance. I use Whoop to track my training, and I enjoy digging into the numbers, spotting patterns and adjusting my approach based on what I see. At school, I put my hand up for group projects, and I’m interested in entrepreneurship, so I’m comfortable taking responsibility and working with others to move ideas forward. Combined with the consistency and discipline I’ve built as a high-performance swimmer, these interests make aerospace engineering – at a rigorous, top-tier programme – feel like the right fit for how I think, what motivates me, and the kind of problems I want to work on in the future.

GCSE Examination Results
GCSEs are the national exams in the UK taken at around age 16. I completed mine in 2024 at Aquinas Grammar School in Belfast, achieving mostly A* and A grades (A* is the highest grade and broadly comparable to an A+ in the US system). These results form the academic foundation for my current A-level studies in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics.

GCSE Subjects & Grades

  • Mathematics – A* (100% overall)

  • Physics – A*

  • Further Mathematics – A*

  • Technology & Design – A* (92% in coursework project)

  • Chemistry – A

  • English Language – A

  • Physical Education – A (100% in practical and coursework: swimming, fitness, basketball)

  • Religious Education – A

  • English Literature – B

  • Spanish – C* (strong pass above standard C level)

In addition to my academic exams, I achieved a Distinction in Grade 5 Piano in practical performance, which I believe reflects sustained commitment and discipline in a second area alongside sport and study.
